Stripping and Waxing Vinyl Composition Tile

A clean, shiny floor is the cornerstone of a fantastic first impression. Vinyl composition tile can be very impressive if it is maintained properly. Daily dust mopping and cleaning will go a long way to extending the life of a finished floor.

When it comes time to do something more than daily maintenance, there are two options:

  1. Stripping the floor all the way down and starting over
  2. Scrubbing and recoating, which capitalizes on finish that has already been laid

When a floor has taken on too much color or has been too deeply scarred, it must be stripped. When a floor has moderate soil and light scratches and scarring, it can be scrubbed and recoated. This involves taking off the first couple of layers of finish to get back to clean, reusable finish and then applying fresh coats of finish on top of the clean floor. Scrubbing and recoating is easier and less expensive and will maximize the appearance of a floor.
